An oldie song says “You need to know when to hold ‘em and when to fold ‘em”. Probably a poker playing man?
But the same applies to design work and the return on time invested. And for LCSims, the time and effort was not generating the sales activity that was hoped, much less wished for. So the decision has been made to say goodbye.
The concept behind LCSims came about from the first two principles I adhere to; first, I’m an avid flight simmer and second, I don’t like to waste money buying shoddy, cheap, over-hyped or over-priced products. The third principle of LCSims was to try and offer the customers more than what the competition might be offering.
I’m a terrain based flyer. Mesh and what it brings to the sim can enhance the experience, or at least it did for me. But I grew weary of the excuses offered when developers were asked about the problems that higher resolution mesh will bring. I set out to try and find a viable solution. That was the genesis behind LCSims. Last year when the site went live no other developer offered anything other than excuses. Now there are a million promises that all the mesh related problems will finally be taken care of. As my blogging style might have said... Buyer beware!
With better mesh and improved airports there was a great foundation for photo scenery that fit like a glove. Rather the FSX community leaps at the continuing hype and hysteria coming from some existing and new producers of photo work. Some of the hype might just come true, but there are few if any “new and improved” developmental processes out there that haven’t been tried by other developers. So again, let the buyer beware.
I would like to say Thank You to those who did become customers of one or more LCSims products. I sincerely hope that you feel that you’ve gotten your money’s worth. It always was a guiding principle at LCSims that the customer came first.
The site will stay active for a little while longer, so that any customers who did not backup their files can request new download links. DVDs are dirt cheap nowadays, it’s just a little time spent backing up the files for future use. Trust me, with my computer fun of 2010, I can attest to what a pain it is having a system go down. Customers needing download links for archival backup have contact e-mail addresses in their product documentation. Those e-mail addresses will be in effect as long as the site stays online.
My work will continue, see the part above about being an avid FS’er. But a good share of it will be for personal use only. There will be some freeware work released over time. And I will continue to offer my assistance as a beta-boy when asked by some developers.
May everyone have enjoyable flights, but especially those that have chosen to fly over a LCSims product!
